Specialty Camps


Develop a greater passion for the things you love, or try out something new at one of our specialty camps!  Specialty camps are for campers looking for a week-long camp where they are able to focus on activities in a specific area.  At each of our specialty camps, day campers spend approximately two hours each day in their specialized activity.  The remainder of the day is spent enjoying traditional camp activities.

OUTDOOR SPORTS

CLIMBING CAMP

Entering grades 2-3 in fall, 2017

On belay!  Campers learn the skills to scale the highest mountains.  Each day campers will focus on different elements of climbing and team building.  Learn techniques to climbing as you scale up the climbing wall, conquer the high teams challenge course, and grow as a team on the low ropes course.  This camp is designed to build self-confidence and learn valuable skills while enjoying an unforgettable adventure.  Campers in grades 4-6 take a two field trips to climb outside on real rock!

SPORTS ADVENTURE CAMP

This camp is designed to teach general skills in the following sports: soccer, basketball, volleyball, ultimate Frisbee, and other field games.  Sports Camp is a safe, fun, non-competitive program designed to build teamwork, leadership skills, and   self-esteem.  Campers will also enjoy the outdoors while participating in traditional camp activities.

OUTPOST CAMP

Entering grades 5-8 in fall, 2017
Weeks of June 5 – August 18

$200/week

Outpost is for the camper excited for a week-long outdoor adventure where you choose your challenges and interests while creating friendships, sharing group experiences, building leadership, and exploring the Rocky Mountain environment using Leave No Trace ethics. Activities include horseback riding, hiking, ropes course, climbing, swimming, scavenger hunts, crafts, meal planning and campfire cooking, survival and camping skills, a song and skit performance, and night exploration.

*Thursday camp hours for this camp are 4:00 p.m. – Friday 3:15 p.m.

HIKING CAMP

Entering grades 4-6 in fall, 2017
Week of June 12 & July 17

$170/week

Love hiking, come explore Rocky Mountain National Park.  Campers will learn the art of using a map and compass, route selection, Outdoor Living Skill, and Leave No trace Principles.  Not only will they come away with these skills, but they will also have the opportunity to go on 1/2 day as well as full-day hikes and earn patches for the hikes completed!

CREATIVE ARTS CAMPS

ARTS & CRAFTS CAMP

Campers discover their artistic side and let their imagination soar.  Kids create through a variety of projects such as: clay sculpture, sketching, watercolors or paints, nature collages, papier mâché, picture frames, necklaces, bracelets, and so much more.  Campers create masterpieces to take home and enjoy!

DRAGONS, FAIRIES & PRINCESS CAMP

Weeks of June 19 & August 7

Campers let their imaginations soar in this magical fairy tale-themed arts and crafts camp!  Participates make dragon and fairy wings, prince and princess crowns, wands, jewel, fairy tale puppets and more.   Campers will also enjoy a special tea party!

SCIENCE & NATURE CAMPS

NATURE CAMP

Entering grades 1-3 in fall, 2017
Weeks of July 31 & August 14

$170/week

Young nature lovers will enjoy the great outdoors of the Rocky Mountains. Campers will learn to use that nature provides as they build outdoor shelters.  They will learn about the wildlife around the area, while hiking the trails and exploring the pond and what it has to offer as well as going into Rocky Mountain National Park.

EXPERIMENTS & ENGINEERING CAMP

Campers take off into a world of explorations through hands-on-experiments including slime, designing and building water rockets, growing crystals, and much more!

OUTDOOR LIVING SKILLS

Kids develop their outdoor living skills in this exciting, hands-on specialty camp!  Campers discover the art of being prepared for the great outdoors by learning orienteering skills with a map and compass plus. Learn how to build and start your own fire without a match, knot tying skills, water filtration, plant and animal identification, and much more about surviving in the great outdoors.

For youth development

To promote youth development, YMCA of the Rockies offers day camp and overnight programs that enable kids to learn, grow and play together. While kids are at camp,parents have time to themselves and kids have the opportunity to create healthy relationships with their counselors and peers in a supportive and nurturing atmosphere.

For healthy living

To promote healthy living, YMCA of the Rockies offers miles and miles of hiking, biking, cross country skiing and snowshoeing trails on our properties. Adventure programming, sports facilities, outdoor education and youth conferences all add to our youth development focus. The Program Departments’ varied offerings include group and family activities to engage guests’ entire spirit, mind and body.

For social responsibility

To promote social responsibility, YMCA of the Rockies is committed to diversity and respect for all people by utilizing more than 50,000 volunteer hours every year, hosting more than 2,500 outdoor education students to instill in them stewardship of our earth, promoting global awareness through the international trainee program and supporting the Chaplains Departments’ religious education programming for youth and adults. Additionally, YMCA of the Rockies endeavors to operate its centers in an earth-friendly fashion with active recycling programs, sustainable architecture in new construction and active natural resource management plans.
