Family adventurers save the date! YMCA of the Rockies will hold its 4th annual Mountaineering Weekend on February 15-18, 2019.
Recently named “Best Family Resort in America” by USA Today’s 10Best Reader’s Choice Awards, YMCA of the Rockies is located on 800+ acres with three sides bordering Rocky Mountain National Park, providing the perfect landscape for outdoor enthusiasts and their families (and dogs) to explore mountaineering. Whether it’s your first time out, or your family has camped in national parks many times, this special event has excursions for every level.
In 2019, we will welcome guest speakers Ricardo Peña, mountain guide and professional musician, and Ulyana Horodyskyj, scientist and mountaineer, are embarking on a journey to finish climbing the 155 summits described above. Ricardo has already done 126 of them but still needs to summit Mt. Everest, Vinson Massif in Antarctica and 29 other peaks. Ulyana will be joining Ricardo on as many of the remaining summits as possible while also attempting to complete the full list of 155 peaks as logistics and finances allow.
The Mountaineering Weekend features educational sessions on winter survival tips and mountaineering skills (learn about avalanche awareness, beacon rescue searches, orienteering and the best first aid for backcountry), guided snowshoe hikes & winter ecology explorations in RMNP, backcountry ski meet-ups, ice climbing lessons, and demos by popular mountaineering equipment brands such as LOWA. Don’t miss the chance to check out new 2019 products from retailers and enjoy meeting other families while you plan your next adventure.
Children will enjoy special story times, kid-lead hikes and fun snow activities (with hot chocolate of course). Regular YMCA of the Rockies programs will be running throughout the weekend, providing a great opportunity to check out the Craft and Design Center, rent some ice skates(weather depending), or take a dip in the indoor pool.
All Mountaineering Weekend activities are free for guests staying in lodge rooms or cabins. Booking & advanced registration is required for weekend activities through this link(click here). Day passes for guests staying off-grounds are also available for $25 per person, per day.
YMCA’s Super Value rates are valid for lodge rooms and value rates for private cabins. Guests can participate in the weekend for as low as $84 per night for a lodge room or $159 per night for a two-bedroom cabin.
