Snow Mountain Ranch Completes Work on 9-Mile Trail

September 14, 2020

YMCA of the Rockies - Snow Mountain Ranch has completed updates to the 9-Mile hiking trail.

Just in time for leaf peeping this fall, YMCA of the Rockies - Snow Mountain Ranch has completed updates to the 9-Mile hiking trail. With help from the $17,980 Open Lands, Rivers, and Trails (OLRT) Grant, along with donations from long-time Snow Mountain Ranch supporters, the Bowles and Johnson families, Snow Mountain Ranch was able to complete this project despite setbacks from the COVID-19 closure.

The 9-Mile Trail is a popular trail on the Snow Mountain Ranch property for hikers of all ages and ability levels. After years of use and erosion, the trail needed some work. In accordance with trail standards, the 9-Mile Trail has been rerouted, widened, and resurfaced to make it safer and more sustainable.

The widening of the tail allows hikers to pass one another more safely while the trail reroute allows better drainage, minimizing erosion.

In addition to the renovations, the work has also allowed the addition of a low-mileage, beginner/ intermediate-level trail with breathtaking views of Grand County for a shorter and easier experience with equally rewarding views.

Since the completion of the work, Snow Mountain Ranch has noticed an increase in the number of hikers on the trail and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.

If you want to experience the improved 9-Mile Trail, head over to the Program building at Snow Mountain Ranch. Day Passes will be available again through the fall season.
